We had a great time today with Danny and his group. We started off with a dolphin and we picked at them all day. We lost a few and caught a few, but had a great time with the guys. I really do hope each and every one of them can make it back to fish with us again.

We ended up with 9 dolphin, 1 king mackerel, a whoo, and an amberjack! I do not think the guys will go hungry anytime soon. The blue marlin fishing is still going strong with a few fish seen today, and several caught yesterday. I hope it continues for Big Rock.

Once again Danny and John thankyou for fishing with us, and we look forward to the next time.

Jesse, and Robert brought their boys Ried, Matt, and Logan just like last year, and just like last year the boys caught more and bigger fish than the Dads! Robert had his chance to get the big one, but the blue marlin had other ideas, and we jumped her off, but while she was hooked she put on a heck of a show. The dolphin fishing was very good, and you throw in a couple wahoos you have yourself a very nice day! I already have them down for Memorial day next year! Last year these boys caught a 75 lb wahoo and we just missed hooking a blue marlin. I guess next year we get a blue marlin to the boat!

The blue marlin fishing has been outstanding so far, so if you are interested in doing battle, give us a call. If you think you need help I know 3 young men that would be glad to give you some pointers. They have mastered the dolphin and wahoo, so look out for next year!

Another great fishing trip with Capt. Donnie and Mate Zach on the Diamond Girl.  This was my 7th or 8th trip on the Diamond Girl and it only gets better.  When customers go fishing with me on the Diamond girl I always know they will leave with a smile on their face and memories of a great trip. Our most recent trip was another huge success, with one of our guys landing his first Blue Marlin.  The night before I had slept on my buddies boat at Anchorage and listened as the wind blew and thunder and lighting sounded like bombs going off.  The weather turned the next morning and Donnie greeted me at 5 letting me know it might be a little rough on the way out but it would only get better.  We had a great day catching Dolphin and Wahoo. The next day I went on my buddies boat and the other guys went on the Diamond Girl, they caught many dolphin, wahoo and landed a marlin what a great day.Looking forward to several more trips this season, and always thanks to Donnie for making each trip so great.Good FishingTerry Kallam

Let me start off by saying what a great couple of days! There will be a photo album in the media gallery as soon as I get some pics emailed to me from our friends. (hint hint). Terry Kallum as always has brought some really good guys to go fishing on the Diamond Girl. Terry and Willie sponsored the first trip with some customers of theirs, and they were awesome. Brian's little girl Lindsay was a big help while cleaning the fish! The day was a little sweely to start with, but it was prettty the whole day. We struggled a bit, but we did manage to catch around 10 dolphin I think it was, and had a great time doing it! We also searched for a blue marlin, but did not find one, at least on this day.

The second day started off slower than the first day, but then we finally started to catch a dolphin here and there along with a nice wahoo. We also spent a good part of the day looking for a marlin, and fortunately the dolphin cooperated while we were in search of "The big bite"! Then around 12:30 or 1:00 we got that big bite! A very nice blue marlin, however we could not keep the hook in her mouth! Only seconds later after losing that fish we hooked a second fish. A good bit smaller thatn the first but about 200 lbs, and on 50lb tackle it was a perfect fish! mintues later we had him beside the boat for a healthy release! add another dolphin or 2 and WOW what a great day of fishing!

The blue marlin have been very cooperative for the fleet this year, so if this is your desire you may want to think about coming fishing soon.

The first picture is day 1 and the second picture is day 2. We did not show a picture of the flag, but there will be images of the marlin in the media gallery soon.

I just want to say thanks again for Terry, Willie, Jerry, and James for bringing some great guys to go fishing, including Dr. Fred, Dr. Askew, Brian, Jim, Anderson, and Damon.

Zach is my new mate and he told me he was "amped". I think that pretty much describes the fishing in a word. We started off hot, and just got hotter. The fleet had a great catch of gaffer size dolphin. THere was a blue marlin caught on a private boat, and we were able to find a sailfish! Not bad! We also added 22 dolphin to the catch, and had many more bites! I am not sure what Cecil and his friends will do with all that fish, but I have a feeling it will not go to waist.

We are open all next week, except for the weekend. The weather is getting better, and the blue marlin fishing has been very good lately. Give us a call for more details.

My pictures are not downloading for some reason, but take my word for it when I tell you Lavern, Greg, and the rest of the gang stepped up again to have a fantastic day. The wives joined them today, and it was a gorgeous day for them to be along. These guys have fished with us for 3 years now, and as always it has been my absolute pleasure to have them fish with us! It is not just the fact that it seems when they go fishing they catch fish, but they are always so nice to have on the boat!

Our fishing day started at 5:30 am, and as always we were back to the dock at 4:30ish. Now in that time of fishing they managed to catch 3 wahoo, and I cant remember how many dolphin (gaffer size). We lost one more nice wahoo at the boat. Despite a little bout of motion sickness, everyone was able to catch some fish, and even catch a few ZZZZ'S. Oh yeah the chicken tenders were awesome also!

Well we finally broke the ice and got our first charter in the books. We have many open days, and hopefully the fishing will now become consistent. Please call us for details.

Wow what a great and busy time we have had. We fished out of Coconut Grove, and even managed to sneak around some storms to get to Key West for a couple of days. We have seen sailfish everyday we fished, with the exception of Key West. (We did not fish for sailfish there.) We anchored, and fished in Key West to start the afternoon with 6 dozen live shrimp, and I am happy to say I think we got a bite on everyone of those shrimp. Once we ran out of shrimp we decided to try slow trolling deep rigs for bigger grouper. We did not catch a legal size grouper, but we did manage to catch about a half dozen king mackerel.

The fishing here in Coconut Grove has been pretty good for sailfish. We have been learning a whole new style of fishing with kites, and live bait. I think everyone enjoyed catching the bait as much as anything else. (Except for the last day we fished in a driving rain storm.) Anyway we are going to fish a couple days this weekend, and then we head back to North Carolina! I like Florida, but I promise "there is no place like home." We will then shift gears for some hot yellowfin tuna fishing offshore WITH DEAD BAIT! I am very excited about that.
Not to mention I get to rejoin my family, which is the absolute best part of going home.

March and April are the best times for tuna fishing, and wahoo fishing can be very good also. I have a lot of open days in March, and April so give me a call for availability, and rates.

Jane by the way has really enjoyed the fishing here, and the weather. We hooked a great big hammerhead shark also, and had to move L.O. to the bow. Notice the bait Clyde and L.O. caught? Good job guys.

Jennifer, Nicky, and Gabbie came to visit me in Florida last weekend, and what a blast! We did a little fishing on Friday, and I think we caught 13 different species of fish. We tried a little kite fishing, and we anchored up, and did a little bottom fishing. Now I am not an expert when it comes to species identification, on some of the exotic bottom fish, but I am an expert at watching to kids have a great time. We caught triggers, groupers, snappers, dolphin, kings, and the list just goes on from there. I almost forgot, Gabbie caught her first dolphin on this trip, however she did not want to pose for a picture. Maybe next time.

We did some other things over the weekend, such as take some time to go to the beach, and we also managed to get the IGFA Hall of Fame. All of these things were awesome, and what a great time had by all. Jennifer also got a little rest, and enjoyed her day out on the water also. Well they have gone back and I miss them a lot, but I also look forward to the next fishing adventure when Clyde and his guest arrive.

    WHAT A GREAT TIME!

Florida Update Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

We are in Florida right now, and we just finished a nice trip to Ocean Reef near Key Largo. Jane and Clyde were able to spend sometime just kicking back and relaxing. The fishing here is different than home. We use deadbaits, and they live bait here, so we are on a little bit of a learning curve right now. We did manage to raise a few sailfish, but only caught one. The bait catching is really as much fun as catching sailfish.

When we tie up to a mooring ball, put out the chum bag, we create our very own aquarium. Yellowtail snapper, sergeant majors, ballyhoo, and various other species, including, but not limited to barracudas.

We have now moved up the road to Miami, and look forward to many more fishing trips. We will also spend a little time in Key West, then back to Miami for a bit before heading back to North Carolina. Once home, we will be ready to start charter fishing in full force for yellowfins, wahoo, and some dolphin in the spring. The marlin fishing will be picking up in the later spring, and I can't wait. So call to book your trips.

For now however, as you can see Jane enjoying the time here in Florida, we will focus on sailfish, and warm weather.

Updates! Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

It has been brought to my attention that I have not done an update in quite sometime. Well I realize that, but I haven't been fishing in quite sometime either. So there is the update. However I do have more information.

We will be traveling this winter, during the months of January, and February. We will be back in plenty of time to catch some yellowfin tunas, so those who have been asking about the best time to fish for tunas, it is March and April. May depends on the weather from the winter as to whether they will be around or not.

If you are interested in fishing for sailfish in a warm climate, then call for details. I hope to keep everyone up to date through the winter, about Florida, and the tuna fishing in the spring.

Now with the updates in place I would like to take a minute and reflect on the past year. Wow! we were busy with tournaments and charters. The yellowfin fishing was slower than usual this last spring, but the wahoo fishing was unbelievable. We caught a 101 lb wahoo followed by a 75 lb fish, a 70 lb fish, a 68 lb fish, and a 60 lb wahoo. We caught our limit on more than one occassion. The billfishing was good although not as hot as last year, but the sailfish were very abundant. The year however would not have been as much fun without each of you that chose to fish with us, and I really hope we can see everyone again next year.

I hope everyone has a very happy and safe holiday season, and we lookforward to a great 2008.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE! WHAT A BLAST!
