This weekend is the first annual Tred Barta/Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament and the Diamond Girl is getting ready.
What a month! The weather has been awesome here, but the fishing has been very scrappy. This time of the year it is hit or miss. Some days you might catch 2 fish and some days you might catch 20; it all depends on the day. We are hoping that we are on the upper end of the numbers this weekend for our 4th stop on the Governor's Cup circuit.
We will be primarily fishing for Sailfish in this tournament becasue they are the most abundant species of billfish found off our coast at this time. When fishing for these we use light tackle consisting of Shimano TLD 25's and 30's. We use "dink" rigs which are skirtless ballhoo rigs with smaller hooks and lighter leader material. For the finicky sailfish they work wonders.
Well I hope everybody is having a great summer and if you get a chance come visit us on the Diamond Girl.
