I am not going to type a lot about this tournament, but just want to let you all know I got to fish 2 days with my son Nicky, and that was more important than any tournament win or fish I catch! We had some awesome people fishing with us including Mahler Thorpe, whom I think he and Nicky had a great time together on Friday, and became good friends! (Thankyou all of you gys for being so nice to Nicky he really enjoyed being with you)

We did not catch very much, but did have a couple of shots, that did not work out, but as I said it was the best time watching Nicky work in the pit, and put to use what he has learned. Also a very big Thank you to Clyde for letting Nicky fish with us! Tha was the best two days on the water ever!

Well I was waiting for a particular someone to email me some pictures to write this article. They haven't done it yet, but I am not going to mention any names T.J. so no one will be upset with this person. However it was a great day on the water with these gentlemen, and I use this term losely! Just kidding, I would have this group any day of the year! All of these guys have been in Iraq, and also have been in for at least 15 years. They all went to flight school together and this was a reunion of sorts. T.J., Al, Bert, Toaster, Roger, and Matt (not in any particular order just how they came in mind) got caught up on old times, and old days, not to mention some just good ole R & R. We caught a big WHite marlin, (still waiting on pictures.) a couple of dolphin, and a big barracuda. We had a couple more shots at billfish, but did not connect.

I do want to extend a big Thank you to these guys for everything they do on a daily basis. It was absolutely my pleasure to carry these men out for a day of fishing, and I only hope I can do it again very soon. First Class all the way. I hope to get some pictures to make an album of the trip soon T.J. so stand by for more info from this trip.

What a "swell" day. Seriously there was a large swell today which is a result of the storm that is east of Bermuda. On tap of that was a fairly strong north east wind. Unfortunately, the fishing was slow also. We had a very nice crew today with Stephen, Trent, and the rest of the gang. ( I have to be honest and tell you I forget the other names.) Usually when fishing is good, I pick on folks that are reeeling very slow, and that helps me remember, but we did not do much reeeling today. A king Mackerel, and a wahoo. We also had 2 shots at sailfish, but did not connect.

I still think the slow fishing was the result of babnanas on the boat, but that is how it goes some days. The billfishing is still holding strong, and we have a tournament this weekend, that is a very fun tournament for kids. The Barta Tournament is very simple, and very reasonable to participate. We are ope, so if you are interested, please call us.

Kallum Strikes Again! Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
      Friday, June 27 2008 @ 11:53 AM EDT

Terry Kallum has yet again joined us for another day on the water. He brought along his faithful sidekick Tonto, or I mean James, and also in the picture was once again Bert, and then a few new comers, Pat, Don, and David. We had a great time and stayed fairly busy all day. We managed to hold on to quite a few dolphin, a couple of blackfin tunas, a wahoo, and a nice king mackerel.
A couple of the guys even overcame the morning sea sickness syndrome, (perhaps a little of the highball flu.) And finished the day strong. I like to see my customers make a recovery and enjoy what the day on the water has for them.

We have many open days during this summer, and the fishing has been pretty good. Especially the billfishing. Several boats caught billfish yesterday. The weather does not look very special this weekend, but the week should be better. I hope to hear from you, and even share some fish stories together. So until then. Remember to keep an eye on the spread!

Hatteras Marlin Club Tournament Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

The fishing for this tournament was not as hot as the week before for the Big Rock. We still saw a few fish, but only managed to hold on to one white marlin. Monday was very slow for us, and we layed due to weather on Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday proved to be our busiest day, and we saw 4 white marlin, and 2 blue marlin. The next day was Friday, and we saw 3 white marlin, but they were less than enthusiastic when the came inot the spread. They never gave aus a true shot. Saturday we fished, but cut it short due to slow fishing, and bad storms coming across the state. We also left the marlin club Saturday to come home, so the weather was a bigger factor than usual. We had a great time with Clyde, and his guest, Woody, and Pogie. I hope they come along next year to redeem ourselves and get back on the board.

We start back with our charters tomorrow, and I look forward to that with high expectations. Who knows maybe we will catch a marlin?

Well Big Rock is over, and the fishing was very good! I am not sure of the real final numbers, but there were over 100 blue marlin caught in this tournament, with some whites, and sails caught also. That is awesome fishing! We caught a second fish on our last day of fishing, but it did not figure into the grand scheme of things, other than busting everyones moral. A 200 pounder with no bill! A very active fish, and Richard did a fine job doing battle.

We did manage to catch the 2nd place daily for release on Tuesday, which payed a little, so everyone was very happy with that. Lee, Big John, Little John, Rom and Richard were a pleasure to have, and I hope we get another shot soon.We also had Clay, and his father Bill, and certainly a big part of the team was Alan. Everyone did not fish everyday, but everyone was a big help when they were onboard. We saw a total of 5 blue marlin, and caught 2, so all in all a great week! Most Big Rock Tournaments 2 blue marlin releases will also land you in the weekly release money, but that is how good the fishing was this year.

We have many open days in July, and the billfishing should only get better! The dolphin fishing should also hold its own, along with the once in a while wahoo.

Big Rock Update! Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Ok time for a quick update on our tournament so far. After two days of fishing we caught one blue marlin that was not big enough to qualify, so we let him go. We saw another nicer fish come into the spread, but she did not eat anything. She wasn't big enough to take anyway, but would have really helped us out on release points.

We layde today, and will fish tomorrow, so keep an eye out for us, and I hope to have some great stories to tell when this is done.

The Blue marlin fishing has been fantastic straight thru the spring, so if you want to try to catch one of these awesome fish, then please call to find out about the adventure of a life time!

TSaturday's fishing started off red hot! Phil and his gang started right off catching some nice gaffer dolphin. Despite feeling a little under the weather Phil had a great time, and I hope he makes it back real soon. We fished alongside the Bill Collector and they ended the day with about the same catch. The Ladys Big Rock TOurnament was going on also, but we stayed on the edge most of the day, however we did sneak out to the very deep water just to see if we could steal a big bite, but that did not work out. Phil, Phil (not a typo), Scott, TIm, Jason, and Dr Jeff were another fun bunch, and I hope they also make it back, heck I really want everyone to make it back to be honest. I think these guys, are even ready to try to clean their own fish. (not really). Ok Big Rock is now upon us so keep an eye out for us on www.thebigrock.com.

First of all let me say "Sorry" for being delayed in my updates! I have been very busy rigging and fishing the Big Rock Tournament also. John Wlaters and his crew were fantastic and a lot of fun. They really had a great time! John, Brian, Jim, Dave, Tony and John did a great job of relaxing and catching fish. The day was steady but never really red hot, but they all were able to carry some fish home, and not go hungry for a few meals. The weather was great also, and sunny. We also spent a little time looking for a marlin, but to no avail. I guess we should save that for Big Rock anyway! Well on that note I want to say thanks again guys for being a fun group and I look forward to next time!

We had a great time today with Danny and his group. We started off with a dolphin and we picked at them all day. We lost a few and caught a few, but had a great time with the guys. I really do hope each and every one of them can make it back to fish with us again.

We ended up with 9 dolphin, 1 king mackerel, a whoo, and an amberjack! I do not think the guys will go hungry anytime soon. The blue marlin fishing is still going strong with a few fish seen today, and several caught yesterday. I hope it continues for Big Rock.

Once again Danny and John thankyou for fishing with us, and we look forward to the next time.
