The Bluefin Tuna is a true heavy weight.
We use big tackle for these monsters of the winter. The
world record is over 1400 lbs. The fish we catch here start
to show up in mid November and stay through January, with
some fair fishing in February and occasionally in March.
We generally troll for this massive fish, and boy what
a bite. You can imagine what a Volkswagen must look like
if it were dropped from an airplane, well that is what
it is like when a bluefin goes after a trolled bait. This
is truly a world class fishery here, and we hope to keep
it that way so unless it is commercial season we typically
let them go after we get a few photos by the boat. This
is to valuable a fish to let numbers of stock go down,
besides just how much sushi can you eat?
